I'm Bothered

I am bothered this morning by reading over something written about why Barack Obama should be president and it basically states he cares about people and McCain doesn't. For some reason there has been this picture painted of republicans that shows us as money hungry, cold, heartless people that don't have compassion for anyone. That is just not true. I'm sure there are republicans who have no compassion just as there are democrats that don't as well.

ABC news stated "Of the top 25 states where people give an above average percent of their income, 24 were red (republican) states in the last presidential election." (read the article here.) Also, there was a man named Arthur Brooks that wrote a book called "Who Really Cares" looked at statistics on charitable giving from several surveys between 1996 and 2004 and found this:
-A religious person is 57% more likely than a secularist to help a homeless person.
-Conservative households in America donate 30% more money to charity each year than liberal households.
-If liberals gave blood like conservatives do, the blood supply in the U.S. would jump by about 45%.

We do care and we show it. Maybe liberals amounts are higher because they have more to give but republicans are giving the greater percentage. Here's my view, and I may make some people mad but I just don't really care. I believe in the assistance programs we have set up, WIC, government housing, unemployement etc. I love the fact that this country can help you when shit hits the fan you never expected and we should all be so thankful for that. However, I feel like your life is your responsibility and you decide your fate and your future. I have just happened to get lucky in the events of my career and have a good paying job with no degree. If I lost this job I would be in definite financial trouble and I can tell you exactly who I would look at for the cause of this and also to find the solution. Myself. It is my fault I didn't take the student loans easily given to me and finish school. Its my fault that I didn't take more of this money I've been earning and save it in case I am laid off or fired.

Unless Obama is planning to direct deposit money into everyone's bank accounts each month that are struggling then this will never end. He cannot eliminate this problem. He cannot change the structure of this country and eliminate the lower class and fix all of their money problems like some people apparently think. Someone I know actually said they thought Obama could eliminate ghettos. How? If you want to change your life then you change it.

I donate the dollar to cancer or muscular dystrophy fundraiser the grocery clerk is offering, I call into the radio station to donate money to the Children's Miracle Network; I help when I can and I care about people even though I'm a republican. There is a difference between being compassionate and having empathy for people and being responsible for them.

If you are voting for Obama this year because you've been made to believe you are a hateful person if you don't, then please take some time to do some reading and arm yourself when knowledge to share with those people.

McCain for President.
