Going without

(One of several letters written to the baby - this one clearly while I was still consuming food.)

Dear Baby, 10/27/09

Today I've been reading up on all the things that I can and cannot do, now that you are living in my belly. Most of them involve the things I put into my body, and most of them I am okay with. No alcohol, no blue cheese, no raw fish... But then I read one line I was not happy about: no deli meat. There is a sandwich restaurant that your dad and I love called Jimmy John's that has the best salami sandwich I've ever had. Well, little did I know when we ate there last week, it would be the last time for another nine months. I am happy to oblige though, as much as I do love a quick and yummy dinner drive-through, because it's my job to keep you healthy. I want you to make sure and mark this letter though, and refer to it whenever I request you clean your room before leaving the house. Because even though you have relieved me from any litter-box duties for a while, I am going without my salami sandwich. And that, baby, is a BIG DEAL.

-Mama
