I'll admit that I am a fan of relationship and marriage blogs/articles. Yes, I'll agree that some are silly and cheesy but I think they re-trigger your brain to work hard. There really isn't much in these that aren't basic common sense, but I think the issue is that we forget these simple things. Of course we know that nagging at our husbands isn't the best way to communicate, but some of us still do it.
A topic I was just reading was about appreciation. I didn't think that this subject was an issue at our house but after thinking about it, it could turn into one. Do you ever realize that sometimes emotions over lap? You could be upset or irritated about one thing in marriage, and something in a completely different category makes up for it or makes you remember how much your spouse loves you and the other isn't a big deal?
I know that I appreciate my husband. Not just for the physical things he accomplishes like yard work but for the role he plays in our marriage. He's the logical one, the calm one, the planner, the realist. When is the last time I told him that? Honestly, I am really not sure.
We all want to feel special. That may be one of the biggest reasons we started a relationship with our spouse in the first place. This article shares some ways to show your appreciation:
1. Be specific
2. Make it about character
3. Drop a line; draft a note
4. Be sincere
Marriage does require work unfortunately, and this type of work is so minute and takes so little time but can easily make a dramatic difference. Let's all make an effort to show more appreciation and remind our spouses they are special, like we all know they are.
