Not a reason to vote for McCain, but a reason to reconsider your Obama vote

My information is being provided by a website called factcheck.org that is a reputable, nonpartisan, nonprofit, consumer advocate for voters. "We monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews and news releases."

Here is a little background. In 2001 a bill was introduced called the Born Alive Infants Protection Act (BAIPA) which gave protection to an infant born alive after a failed attempt at induced abortion. If an abortion failed and the infant had a beating heart, could breath, had pulsation of the umbilical court or had definite movement of voluntary muscles, it is considered a human being and not just a fetus and they have the rights to legal protection.

In 2001 and 2002 this bill was introduced to the Illinois state Senate, being denied both years. Obama voted no on both. However in 2002 a federal version of this act passed unanimously and was signed by the President into law. Obama's reasoning for not voting for the state bill was that the wording was not the same as the federal bill, and that wording would have undermined Roe v Wade, a woman's right to an abortion. He was partially right, and voted for an amendment to make the Illinois BAIPA identical to the federal bill. Obama has claimed that had the two bills been the same he would have been "fully in support" because it contained protections for Roe v Wade. There was a neurality clause added to the state bill protecting Roe v Wade and in 2003, the BAIPA was reintroduced into the Illinois senate again, and Obama still voted no.

Obama has defended his argument during this election citing he doesn't want to take the women's abortion rights away and having signed that bill, would have. In June this year, his campaign made a statement on his website titled, "Illinois and Federal Born Alive Infant Protection Acts Did Not Include the Same Language." Fact Check says "Obama's claim is wrong. . . it did contain language identical to the Federal Act."

He has repeatedly defended his position based on nonfactual information. He has squeezed his way out of a sticky situation yet again and is convincing Americans he had done the right thing and he had us in his best interest which is just not true. He has managed to pull himself out of messy situations time and time again with Bill Ayers, ACORN, Jeremiah Right and democrats have basically said these things don't matter. Why don't they matter? Why is every excuse he has given good enough for us? Why don't we dig deeper for the facts? Whether you are pro-choice or pro-life I'm sure most would agree that if a mother waits long enough in her pregnancy that her child actually survives the abortion, it should have legal rights.

When it comes down to these important issues, these questions on character and morals, we should all look at the facts and towards the truth. Obama and McCain supporters should not take their words at face value but dig deeper and learn, we owe that to ourselves and we deserve better.
